"camp wedding" is my fourth collaboration with director greg emetaz, and our first feature together. greg is the kind of director composers dream about; giving tons of room for creativity, and providing notes that always make the end result better. i am always so grateful to kickstarter for facilitating our introduction.
the score for this film was inspired by the film music of horror maestro john carpenter, and the bbc radiophonic workshop's doctor who scores from the 1980s (especially the work of paddy kingsland and malcolm clarke). the primary themes revolve around the merging of pachelbel's canon in d - one of the most tiresome and overused wedding songs - and the dies irae, a gregorian chant for the dead.
a variety of software synthesizers and samplers were used, in addition to a small analog synth. Many of the sounds were generated using my voice, or by running samples through atypical processing (e.g.: plucked cellos through layers of distortion).
while the film straddles the line between horror and comedy, the score is firmly rooted in the dark dissonant horror side (although the titles are admittedly wacky).
i hope you enjoy this album as much as i enjoyed creating it.
